Little UN of Trastevere? Italian formula for conflict solving? Parallel diplomacy? There are various definitions of the Community of Sant’Egidio for its pacifying activities in many countries. Balzan Peace Prize and Unesco Prize for Peace, at the forefront of many hot areas of the planet: this volume tales the story of how the Community of Sant’Egidio has become a decisive subject in solving civil wars and international conflicts.
The book presents an analysis of the main peace-making initiatives of Sant’Egidio: from Mozambique to Algeria, from Guatemala to Burundi, from Albania to Kosovo, from Liberia to the Ivory Coast, from Central Africa to Togo, from Guinea Conakry to Niger, up to the – no less peace-making – commitment to defeat AIDS in Africa and to eliminate the death penalty worldwide. These history pages flow with a common message: peace is always possible and everyone, really everyone, can be a peacemaker.
