SMALL LIBRARY OF HEALTH AND GOOD LIFESTYLES

NUTRITION

The first volume in the series addresses the topic of nutrition, which is one of the most important and determining factors in quality of life. Today, more people die from poor nutrition than from drugs, smoking, alcohol, and risky sexual activity combined. The volume discusses and offers guidance on when to eat (from intermittent eating to the inadvisable practice of weekly or monthly fasting, as well as practical advice for the very young), how much to eat (always balancing quantity and appetite), and what to eat (practical advice on how to follow a balanced Mediterranean diet). It also includes in-depth analyses of certain eating disorders, such as anorexia and bulimia.

Silvano Gallus directs the Lifestyle Research Laboratory at the Department of Medical Epidemiology at the Mario Negri Institute. Her research focuses on tobacco use and its impact on public health. He is a founding member of the Alliance for a Tobacco-Free Italy association.

Carlotta Franchi is head of the Laboratory of Pharmacoepidemiology and Human Nutrition at the Department of Health Policy Research at the Mario Negri Institute. In 2024, she received the first prize awarded by the Cannavò Foundation for the Value of the Pharmaceutical Profession. She is the scientific coordinator of the Italian Institute for Planetary Health – IIPH, a joint venture between the Mario Negri Institute for Pharmacological Research IRCCS and the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart.
