The subject of this volume is the apostolic awareness. Following the example of the apostles par excellence, Peter and Paul, Christians have to be aware that they are “sent” by Someone else to carry out some work that is not their own work. Christians are not people who roll up their sleeves and think they have to undertake some personal venture or to pursue their own project. On the contrary, Christians live in the dynamism of response to God. It is God who loves and therefore calls every Christian to love the world and to live with / in the world. It is no accident that the biblical text of reference here is the beginning of the second part of the book of the Acts of the Apostles (Acts 13): the acknowledgement of a missionary awareness by the apostle Paul.
As repeatedly highlighted by Pope Francis, especially in Evangelii gaudium, it is urgent that Christian faith matures towards a missionary awareness related to the mission of the Son. In this sense, this book by Card. Martini anticipated the vision of Pope Bergoglio’s Church. Carlo Maria Martini remains one of the most listened and followed voices of our time, not only by Catholics.

Following the example of the apostles, a book on missionary awareness that anticipated the vision of Pope Francis’ Church.
